Minister of Sport, Arts, and Culture Gayton McKenzie brought singer, radio host and presenter Unathi Nkayi to tears at a recent event she hosted for the department.

Nkayi posted a video on Instagram of the emotional moment that brought her to tears, where the Minister threw his weight behind her.

“I have never spoken to Unathi, but she's going to blossom. And while I'm the minister, she will represent us on stages. And the ones that were planning that this woman must be destroyed, they got something coming,” said McKenzie.

In her caption, Nkayi expressed her gratitude to the minister and ministry and many of her followers shared their support for her.

“No person must be destroyed. Whether we like people, we must make sure their talent gets appreciated. This thing of South Africa where we destroy people when we don't like them, it must come to an end. It will come to an end with me,” he said.

Last year, the singer issued a summons to Kaya FM, from the High Court of South Africa, seeking R1.6 million. “The summons reflects that Unathi is suing Kaya FM for R1 300 000 for contractual damages,” her legal representative David Feinberg confirmed to "IOL Entertainment".

“In addition, R100,000 for delictual damages, and R200,000 for the infringement of her right to dignity (all totalling R1 600 000),” Feinberg said.

In 2021, radio station Kaya 959 confirmed that Nkayi’s contract had been terminated effective immediately. This followed an alleged verbal altercation between her and on-air personality Sizwe Dhlomo.

Dhlomo recently shared his views on the legal matter during his appearance on the “L-Tido Podcast”.

“That was personal. If I didn't have my ducks in a row, luckily I always do, then my career could have been ruined, that one I don't take lightly, that's to the death.”

Dhlomo added that he doesn't even think about Nkayi and predicted that she will lose her case because he has evidence.
