Apple is welcoming the New Year with an exciting promotion by allowing anyone to access its AppleTV+ streaming service for free from January 3 to January 5, 2025.

The company made the announcement on social media and included an enticing short video featuring some of its most popular shows, like "Severance", "Shrinking", and more.

Although Apple’s viral post on X (previously, Twitter) announcing the promotion says the service will be free to stream on January 4 and 5, the official press release from Apple says it will be available from January 3 to 5.

The question is whether a weekend is enough to binge-watch any one or more of these popular shows, especially "Severance", which is returning for its highly anticipated second season on January 17, but we can admit it is an excellent opportunity for both new and existing viewers to explore its offerings.

Apple is likely hoping that people will get hooked on some TV shows which will encourage them to sign up for a subscription to keep up with them or explore the streaming service’s library of content even more.

Some notable shows viewers can watch for free this weekend include:

Severance: A psychological thriller exploring the lives of employees at Lumon Industries who undergo a procedure to separate their work and personal memories.

Shrinking: A comedy-drama featuring a therapist who begins to share his unfiltered opinions with clients, leading to humorous and transformative outcomes.

Silo: A dystopian drama based on Hugh Howey's novels, set in a mysterious underground silo where the last remnants of humanity reside.

Ted Lasso: A heartwarming comedy about an American football coach leading a British soccer team, celebrated for its humour and positivity.

The streaming service will be free on any device that has AppleTV+, all you will need is an Apple ID.

Following the free weekend, Apple TV+ subscriptions will revert to their standard price of $9.99 (R188) per month, which includes a seven-day free trial for new users.
