Netflix’s hit reality series Young, Famous & African returned for its highly anticipated third season recently, with fans eager to dive back into the world of Africa’s elite. The new season, which features eight episodes, brings fresh faces and plenty of drama, including the introduction of South African influencer and author Kefilwe Mabote.

The show follows a group of African socialites as they navigate their glamorous but complicated lives, full of feuds, friendships, and personal revelations. Drama is never in short supply, with this season kicking off with a bang.

Tensions flared when Diamond Platinumz feels snubbed by Zari’s wedding invite, suspecting it’s due to unresolved issues between him and fellow cast member Fantana.

Meanwhile, Luis confesses his lingering feelings for Fantana, creating even more sparks. And in a surprising twist, Annie admits she’s shocked to receive an invite to Zari and Shakib’s wedding, considering she didn’t extend an invite to Zari for her own anniversary celebration.

The drama hasn’t gone unnoticed by fans, with many taking to social media to express their thoughts. On X (formerly Twitter), @codeusesasha praised Luis for discussing African traditions, saying, “I love Luis talking about ululating and African traditions. Because, yes let’s share some culture. Educate international audiences. It cannot all be about vanity and contrived beef.”

Others were more focused on the production’s direction. @LeboneMphahlele commented, “For the producers to give us more of the cast members’ daily life routines and not just hop and hop to events and trips only. The cast is perfect though.”

The fan reactions have ranged from praise to criticism. @BabyGManka didn’t hold back, stating, “Annie Idibia’s behaviour is product of either one of these two things: 1. She is snorting drugs, 2. The marriage to 2face has managed to make her run mad.”

Meanwhile, @libra_1718 called for more continuity in the show, tweeting, “I’m going to need production to take notes from @bravo on adding in receipts from last season … or even 5 minutes ago. When someone says ‘I didn’t say that,’ I wanna see a clip from ‘13 seconds ago.’”

The season also sparked reflections on cultural authenticity. @IshaqueNsubuga praised Shakib for introducing himself in Luganda, calling it a bold and authentic move that made Ugandans proud, despite some criticisms.

In a colourful summary of the cast, @bexayo tweeted, “In summary: Annie—problematic; Fantana—delusional; Diamond—menace; Luis—misunderstood; Swanky—extra (messy); Khanyi—wise; Naked—slow; Kayleigh—patient; Nadia—real; Zari—gorg (can never make me hate her); Kefi—1 good deed; Ini—new; Shakib—young.”
