The Miss South Africa reality show, “Crown Chasers“ has been nominated for a South African Film & Television Award (SAFTA).

The show was nominated in the category, Best Competition Reality Show, despite the Chidimma Adetshina controversy it sparked online weeks before the finale.

Adetshina sparked an online controversy with many Mzansi netizens questioning her name and saying she was not a South African, asking for her exclusion from the pageant. She eventually withdraw a day before the big final after questions arose about how her mother was accused of identity fraud.

“Crown Chasers” is a five part reality TV series which gave viewers the opportunity to get the behind-the-scenes with the Miss South Africa hopefuls. The show gives viewers a first hand account of what it takes to win the Miss SA crown.

The show follows the journey of the Top 16 finalists in the first episode, and as the weeks go by and the finale approaches, some of the contestants get eliminated one by one, until the final about five weeks later. In each week, on the bases of their performances for the week.

The finalists, every week are placed in real life Miss South Africa scenarios that include a series of challenges based on the four pillars of Miss South Africa which are, duty, championship, empowerment and beauty.

The 2024 crown chasers did things a little bit different with the Miss SA 2023, Natasha Joubert being the presenter of the series.

This is the second time that the Miss South Africa organisation gets nominated for a SAFTA. In 2022, Miss South Africa live show earned a SAFTA nomination under the category of Best Entertainment Programme.

The CEO of the Miss South Africa organisation, Stephanie Weil, said they were honoured.

“It is a tremendous honour to be nominated once again for such a prestigious award. We took a risk when it came to Crown Chasers and our determination to give a fresh perspective to pageantry but it has paid off.

“We are delighted that television viewers embraced the show and that we have again been recognised by the SAFTAs.”

Miss South Africa is presented by Weil Entertainment in association with Sun International. S3 is the official broadcast partner.
