For the first time, South Africa's leading pregnancy, baby, toddler and parenting expo, the Baba Indaba, was held this year at the Durban Exhibition Centre.

The expo gave Durban mothers a real treat for their "Freedom Day" long weekend (27 April).

After last year's huge success when the event was held in Cape Town, requests poured in from the "baby" market to extend the exhibition into a national event.

Show director Natalie Naude said she was positive Durban would embrace the exhibition.

"April in Durban is 'baby' month, with an international Fertility Conference taking place at the same time, and we are sure that our exhibitors will receive a warm welcome in Durban," she said.

The SABC Education Baba Indaba Expo showcases on average 90 leading brands to the parents and parents-to-be of South Africa, as well as displaying an interactive exhibition where visitors will have a chance to gain information on real, solid parenting.

Steven Brown, from S&A Marketing, said: "The show brings the manufacturers, suppliers and retailers of baby care products together with parents and pregnant moms. This collaboration with great exhibitors creates an inspirational and stimulating expo packed with information, shopping, show specials and fun for you and your baby.

"The range of cute, new and innovative baby products provides plenty of interest for grandparents and even friends looking for that ideal gift for a baby shower.

"At Baba Indaba, you will find everything from prams and baby joggers to feeding bottles and vitamin supplements; from car safety seats to toddler music and nursery furniture; from nutritional and medical products to pool safety and video cameras.

"Everyone with an interest in babies, children and parenting will find something exciting at Baba Indaba. Everything you could possibly want for bumps, babies and toddlers is all under one roof."

The Takalani Sesame TV characters will be on stage twice daily with their shows.
