Described by Harper's Bazaar and Vogue as 'stunning works of art', Yoga Design Lab is a new brand of yoga mats with beautiful, bright designs.

With a growing celebrity following in the USA, I have to admit that I felt quite the celebrity when I unrolled my gorgeous, brightly coloured new yoga mat at my yoga class last weekend.

The story of Yoga Design Lab began in 2014 when Canadian surfer/yogi, Chad Turner, sold everything he had, packed his bags and moved to Bali, driven by the idea to create a functional and aesthetically beautiful yoga mat.

“I was seated in the back of a packed yoga class while on vacation in Ubud, Bali. Looking around, all I saw was a sea of unoriginal, massed produced, solid colored mats. My thinking was that there must be a way of creating a highly functional product that was also aesthetically beautiful. So the journey began. Long story short, I sold my stuff, packed up a couple bags and moved to Bali with the goal of creating a stunning line of yoga products that inspire more people to get excited about yoga."

100% Natural the yoga mats are made of a natural tree rubber base from Vietnam and recycled bottle microfiber that works as a towel.

The gorgeous print designs are made with water-based inks.

The microfiber is adhered while the rubber mat is heated to avoid any sort of toxic glue, preventing any glue odors.

The sueded microfiber top gives a better grip whenever you start to sweat during your practice - giving stability to any balancing pose - I even felt more grounded during downward dog and warrior 2 poses. In fact the mat grips better the more you sweat!

Eco-friendly, biodegradable and free from silicone, the mats are machine washable and easy to dry

“It’s always been a goal to launch YDL in South Africa. I’ve been spending more and more time in the Western Cape the last couple years and have completely fallen for this country and it’s people. There is really no place like it. Yoga is growing exponentially here and we’re excited to hopefully play a role in spreading the mind/body benefits of yoga practice to more South Africans”
