Planning a wedding is often described as a happy yet stressful time.
For one bride-to-be, her older sister's demand to change the carefully chosen wedding colour scheme became a source of family drama.
A demand that ultimately led to her being uninvited from the wedding.
The bride-to-be took to Reddit’s “Am I The A**hole” page to share the story about how her sister’s insistence on aesthetics caused a rift in the family.
The bride, a 28-year-old woman, and her fiancé had been meticulously planning their outdoor garden-themed wedding for over a year.
They opted for a dusty rose and sage green colour scheme, which complemented their vision for a romantic atmosphere.
Excited to share her plans, the bride sent a mood board to her bridal party, which included her 32-year-old sister Sarah.
Sarah, who is strong-willed and know for her love of aesthetics, wasn’t pleased.
She called the bride, upset that the chosen colours were “horrendous” and would “completely wash her out.”
With olive skin and dark hair, she claimed that dusty rose and sage green were her “worst nightmare.”
She demanded that the bride change the entire wedding’s colour scheme to jewel tones, which she felt would better suit her complexion.
Of course, the bride was taken aback by her sister’s request.
Changing the colour scheme was not an option, as deposits had already been made and the theme was central to the couple’s vision.
She explained this to her sister, emphasising that the wedding was about her and her fiancé, not about Sarah’s preferences.
But her sister was not satisfied, accusing the bride of being selfish and inconsiderate.
She even went as far as to threaten not to attend the wedding unless her demands were met.
After days of pressure and guilt-tripping from her sister, the bride reached her breaking point.
In a heated moment, she told Sarah that if the colours were such an issue, perhaps it was better for her not to come to the wedding at all.
This marked the end of Sarah’s involvement in the wedding, as the bride uninvited her from both the bridal party and the event.
The decision made her family furious. The bride’s parents accused her of being a “bridezilla” and overreacting to what they saw as a trivial issue.
Her fiancé, who stood firmly by her side, reminded her that the wedding was a celebration of their love and that their choices should reflect what they both wanted, not the preferences of others.
“I'm also heartbroken that this is causing such a huge rift in my family. Maybe I should have tried harder to make my sister happy, even if it meant changing my vision,” writes the bride-to-be.
She concludes her post by asking Reddit users if she is the a**hole for uninviting my sister from my wedding because she demanded I change my wedding colours to suit her complexion.
“NTA. It’s your wedding, not her fashion show. Changing the colours because she doesn’t like how she’ll look is selfish and unreasonable, especially with deposits already made. Her reaction was over the top, and uninviting her was fair,” responded one user.
Another agreed that she’s NTA saying: “NTA: This is your wedding. It’s also a chance to start a new family with your husband who supports you. Sadly it might be time to trim the weeds.”
