Durban – Mayor of Msunduzi has hailed the residents of the Hilton area as loyal customers that pay their electricity accounts religiously.

Mayor Mzimkhulu Thebolla was addressing the residents during a public meeting to analyse issues that affect the area.

The meeting was attended by his counterpart mayor of uMngeni Chris Pappas, his deputy Sandile Mnikathi and municipal officials.

“You are one of the very loyal customers of the Msunduzi municipality, without fail 97% of our customers in Hilton pay us religiously and they deserve better service,” said Thebolla during the meeting on Wednesday afternoon.

The Hilton area falls under the uMngeni Municipality but it is supplied with electricity by the Msunduzi Municipality.

“Just as background, the Msunduzi Municipality is facing so many challenges,” he said, detailing the issues related to the maintenance of the infrastructure.

He said the municipality will spend millions in the coming year to upgrade infrastructure in the area to limit the impact of challenges experienced in the city that do not have a huge impact on that area.

“We will do all we can to ensure that you receive an uninterrupted service from us as long as we are still in this partnership (with uMmgeni),” he said.

The area has been affected by power outages recently and uMngeni has said that, in the future, they would like to take over the supply of electricity.

In the meantime they have suggested that it take over the basic maintenance of infrastructure like street lights.
