Now this may shake up the establishment in the South African hatchback market - GMSA has confirmed that the Chevrolet Cruze hatch will be released in South Africa in the first week of October.
Much will depend on pricing and model line-up, both of which GMSA is holding back on until the launch, but we can expect to see the same 1.6 and 1.8-litre petrol variants as the sedan, although nobody at IOL Motoring is holding their breath waiting for a diesel or an auto transmission.
The hatch is built on the same platform as the sedan (no surprise, that) with short overhangs at both ends and a 400-litre boot with 60/40 split rear seat under a long, sweeping roofline - it's almost a four-door coupé rather than a chopped-off hatchback.
At the same time GMSA has promised us an updated Cruze sedan, with lots of new features and some detailed styling changes - mostly, we would imagine to the plastic parts.
