In Italy, the home of the designer label, name-dropping is a way of life. But even by Italian standards, this combination carries a lot of clout - a Maserati GranCabrio styled and trimmed by leather maestro Silvia Venturini Fendi.

The Maserati GranCabrio Fendi will be seen in public for the first time at the Frankfurt motor show in mid-September, but these pictures give you some idea of the effort that went into it.

The three-layered body colour is a special dark grey with an iridescent golden finish on the surface and the wood trim that runs across the width of the dashboard, on the doors and on the top of the gear lever is stained Fendi's trademark yellow, to match the Brembo brake callipers and the embroidered yellow Maserati trident on the head restraints.

The Fendi double-F logo is embossed on the centre panels of the seat squabs and backrests, the centre of the 20" trident-spoked alloy wheels, and on the rocker panel, and Fendi's softest, most luxurious leather is used for the instrument-cluster cover, gear lever and the edges of the floor mats - as well as the special set of Fendi fitted luggage and accessories that comes with the car.

There's an oval silver plaque engraved with the Maserati trident, Fendi logo and a five-digit serial number (five is apparently Silvia Venturini Fendi's lucky number) on the dashboard in front of the passenger seat, and on both sides of the black cloth folding roof.

And finally, each limited-edition Maserati GranCabrio Fendi will come with a special black-on-black car cover embossed with the double-F logo, so that it looks special just sitting there in the garage.
