In a heartwarming display of corporate social responsibility, KFC South Africa has donated R127,000 to the Pretoria Sunrise Rotary Club, bolstering their collaborative efforts to elevate early childhood education in Pretoria East.
The substantial cheque was ceremoniously handed over to Rotary Club President Dr Panganai Dhliwayo, marking a significant milestone in their ongoing partnership.
This generous contribution will play a pivotal role in enhancing the operations of the Kungwini Early Childhood Learning Centre, part of the Kungwini Welfare Organisation, along with Sweet Angels Creche. These children's centres cater to approximately 100 children, and KFC's support will enable them to offer improved care and early learning opportunities that are crucial for the development of the young minds they serve.
Made possible through KFC’s Add Hope initiative, this donation is far from a one-off gesture. It forms part of a larger community-driven project, wherein R2 contributions from KFC customers are allocated to feeding schemes and various community programs. This ongoing support not only underscores KFC's commitment to community welfare but assures the continued functioning of the creches until June 2025, providing families with the stability and security they desperately need.
October holds special significance for Rotary International as it is designated as Polio Awareness Month, a campaign aimed at raising awareness and funds to combat this life-threatening disease. Emphasising the intersection of education and health, Dhliwayo noted, "Rotary focuses on health, education, and the environment, and strong, healthy children are essential for families, their communities, and the country."
He highlighted that while nutrition is crucial for boosting children's immunity, vaccinations remain essential to protect them from deadly diseases like polio, which can result in severe health complications or even death.</p>
The Pretoria Sunrise Rotary Club prides itself on its commitment to transparency and accountability in handling sponsorships, which is a cornerstone of its fruitful relationship with KFC.
Currently in the second year of a three-year sponsorship agreement, the club diligently submits monthly reports and an annual financial statement to ensure that the donation is effectively utilised. This long-standing partnership has benefited countless children in the community over the years, creating a ripple effect of positive change.
Ntombizodwa Banda, the owner of Sweet Angels Creche, expressed her heartfelt gratitude for KFC's generous support, stating, "We are so grateful for this help for the children." Her sentiments reflect the collective gratitude of those whose lives are touched by this collaboration.
The alliance between KFC and the Pretoria Sunrise Rotary Club illustrates the power of corporate-community partnerships in making a meaningful impact on children's health and education.
As the world pivots to address issues of malnutrition and disease, such collaborative efforts pave the way for brighter futures for young children in our society.
