The vibrant Afro house duo known as New Collection, hailing from Winterveldt in Pretoria, are making waves with their latest musical offering titled Spelete.
Comprising the dynamic talents of Kenneth Mndeni Zulu and James Hendricks Mathe, the duo has collaborated with popular broadcaster Isaac Percy Mabasa, affectionately known as Percy Sleash SA, and the charismatic vocalist Siyabonga Nkosi, also known as C’ya, to deliver a track that is already creating a buzz across social media platforms.
Spelete serves as a tribute to a burgeoning local fashion brand of the same name, created by Johannes Mahlangu. The song encapsulates how the brand resonates with the distinctive style and swagger of the Pretorian culture, celebrating their pride and honour in unique fashion choices.
This cultural fusion of music and style is pushing boundaries and setting trends in South Africa, tapping into local sentiments and style narratives deeply ingrained in the community.
As the lead visionary behind this project, Percy Sleash SA expressed enthusiasm about the song's early reception, stating, "The song is already gaining traction on social media, and we are hoping to shoot the music video in mid-November. People should watch out for this one on TV." The commitment from the team suggests that Spelete is poised for a successful launch that will resonate with audiences and fashion enthusiasts alike.
However, the journey to create Spelete was not without its challenges. The production process presented hurdles when the team had to navigate through three different versions of the track, leading to difficult decisions on which sound best encapsulated their vision. Fortunately, the faith shown by their record label, DJ Edit SA Music, in the second version proved to be a turning point, enabling the team to move forward confidently.
To further promote Spelete, New Collection has already lined up two promising events. They will perform at the "New Collection & Friends" event on November 2 in Hebron, which they consider a litmus test for audience response. Additionally, they are excited to showcase the track at the All White in Pretoria on December 16, where they hope to reach an even broader audience.
With the stage set for this festive anthem, New Collection is ready to capture hearts through music. Their collaboration in Spelete not only highlights their artistic prowess but also reinforces the rich cultural tapestry of Pretoria's fashion and music scene. As anticipation builds, fans and fashionistas alike are eager to see how this dynamic combination unfolds as Spelete makes its mark on South African airwaves.
