Proteas' white ball coach Rob Walter has resigned from his position, citing "personal issues", Cricket South Africa announced on Tuesday.
Walter quits having led the Proteas to the final of last year’s T20 World Cup final in the West Indies and the United States, their first appearance in an ICC final since 1998. He was appointed as the Proteas' white ball coach in 2023 following Mark Boucher's 2022 resignation.
“Coaching the Proteas has been an incredible honour, and I am immensely proud of what we have achieved together,” Walter said in CSA’s statement.
“The players, support staff, and the South African cricketing community have been fantastic throughout this journey. While it’s time for me to step away, I have no doubt that the team will continue to grow and reach even greater heights.”

Speaking on the job Walter has done over the last two years, director of cricket Enoch Nkwe said he needed to be recognised for expanding the talent pool across both the ODI and T20 formats.
“While in charge, he ensured that emerging players had the opportunity to develop and make their mark at the highest level, which will be critical for the future of the Proteas.
“We have a busy period of white-ball cricket over the next two years as we build towards the Cricket World Cup on home soil. His successor will continue to work towards that 50-over World Cup campaign, along with next year’s T20 World Cup.”
There have been calls for the Proteas’ Test coach Shukri Conrad to be put in charge of the white ball teams.
The Test team has been flying under the guidance of Conrad, with the team winning five of their last seven Test series and making it all the way to the World Test Championship final in June.
