As the Willie le Roux Rugby Festival returns to Stellenbosch from April 2–5, 2025, young players will have the chance to showcase their talents on a major stage, potentially catching the eye of scouts or national coaches in the same way Siya Kolisi and Willie le Roux once did. This prestigious event at the Markötter Sports Ground is quickly becoming a breeding ground for South Africa's future rugby stars.
Spearheaded by Springbok legend Willie le Roux, the festival brings together 1,555 players and 235 coaches from across Southern Africa and Namibia, creating a unique platform for emerging talent. The festival offers young athletes the chance to test their skills against fresh competition while also providing a valuable developmental experience.
The family-friendly atmosphere, complete with food stalls, a dedicated marquee, and live broadcasts from Bok Radio, adds to the excitement. Spectators can also enjoy the "Chat ’n Bietjie Ball" fireside chat with rugby legends like Steven Kitshoff, Justin Swart, Dick Muir, and Johann Ackermann, offering a glimpse into the history of South African rugby.
For the players, staying in the boarding houses of Paul Roos Gymnasium and Stellenbosch University will immerse them in the rich traditions of South African rugby, providing a unique experience as they prepare for their futures in the sport. As the festival grows, it continues to attract aspiring rugby stars, making it a prime opportunity for scouts to spot the next big talent in the world of South African rugby.
