As the countdown to the 12th annual Ugu International Film Festival (UGUIFF) warms up, anticipation is building among local and international stars.

Among those gearing up for the event, from October 17-19 at Margate Hotel, KwaZulu-Natal, are prominent figures in the cinematic world, including South Africa’s beloved Siyabonga Shibe, award-winning actor Luthuli Dlamini, and the rising star Sthembiso Mtshali.

Joining them are film director Siya Sityana, producer Portia Ncwane, and internationally acclaimed filmmaker Peter Pham, all ready to celebrate the magic of movies.

The festival promises not just an array of compelling films, but a plethora of enriching activities designed to enlighten and entertain.

Film lovers can look forward to screenings of both local and international films, workshops and master classes led by industry experts, and invaluable networking opportunities with established filmmakers and producers.

A stand-out addition to this year’s festival is the “Film and Business Market 2024”, which aims to empower both filmmakers and the vibrant Ugu community.

Festival founder Senzo Zindela highlights this new initiative as a crucial catalyst for fostering partnerships between the business and film sectors, paving the way for future collaborations.

He enthuses: “Through the market, UGUIFF aims to reach out to all levels and standards of living by incorporating several activities.”

The market will feature exhibition stands, live film action performances for audiences, stunt performances designed for children, and active involvement from local schools, thereby creating a fully immersive festival experience.

With various businesses committed to showcasing their products, festival-goers can expect an unparalleled platform for high-end film discussions, engaging workshops, and captivating film screenings — all taking place at the same venue.

Reflecting on the continued support the festival enjoys, Zindela states: “We are thrilled to host the 12th Ugu International Film Festival, promoting cultural exchange, creativity, and economic growth in our region. Our sponsors’ support is invaluable, and we look forward to delivering an unforgettable experience.”

Members of the public and the community of Ugu are encouraged to join the festivities, gain invaluable knowledge through workshops, and revel in the diverse selection of films on offer.

The gripping line-up for this year’s festival includes titles such as The Foggy Mountain, Indida Yothando, My Father’s Shadow, Safe Bet, Colourful Crime”, and many more.
